Can you believe your baby is turning one soon?

Cake Smash photoshoots are a fantastic way to celebrate their first birthday. 

They’re heaps of fun, very messy and a great excuse to introduce your little one to the magic of cake.

I’ll capture all their reactions as they poke, squish, taste, demolish or completely ignore their cake. Once the cake has had its moment, we’ll finish with a warm bubble-bath splash to clean up all those sticky fingers and toes. You’ll walk away with a gallery of photographs that captures their personality at this wonderful, slightly chaotic stage that you can look back on and laugh at in the years ahead.

FIRST, WE SMASH

We pop a cake down in front of bubs and watch what happens

Some babies dive straight in. Some delicately poke it with one finger. Some taste the icing and don’t look back. Others are less than impressed.

Whatever their reaction, it’s all part of the fun, and I’m there to capture all those cute expressions, messy fingers and little moments as they work out exactly what they’re supposed to do with this strange thing we’ve put in front of them.

THEN, WE SPLASH

Once the cake has been sufficiently demolished or your baby’s decided it is not for them, we’ll pop your baby into a warm bath for their Splash photos.

They get to play and splash while we clean off the icing, giving us another completely different set of photographs before they head home sparkling clean like nothing happened.

That’s completely fine!

Despite the name, not all babies actually smash their cake. Some babies do dive straight in, while others need a little encouragement, and every so often some decide cake isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

We’ll give them time to explore it in their own way. Their reaction, whatever it is, is part of the story and often makes for some of the funniest photographs.

Sessions are best held between 10 and 12 months of age.

At 10–11 Months: Ideal if you want your finished photographs back in time to print for party invitations or decor.

At 12 Months: Perfect if you want to celebrate on or right around their actual first birthday!

I recommend booking 2 to 3 months in advance to secure your ideal date.

If you’ve left it to the last minute, don’t panic! As long as I have at least one week’s notice to order your cake, I will do my best to fit you in if my schedule allows.

All Cake Smash + Splash sessions take place at my photography studio in Thornbury, in Melbourne’s inner north.

The studio gives us everything we need to make an enormous mess and, importantly, clean your baby up afterwards.

I keep my cake smash sets simple and timeless.

Rather than elaborate themes and lots of props, I use a clean white backdrop with a simple semi-naked or white buttercream cake.

This keeps your little one as the star of the show. Their expressions, chubby cheeks, baby rolls, messy hands and reactions become the photographs rather than the decorations around them.

Me. A simple, beautiful semi-naked or buttercream cake is included in your session fee, so that’s one less thing for you to organise.

If your baby has known allergies or dietary restrictions, I’ll leave you to organise a cake that you know is 100% safe for them. Please let me know at the time of booking, and we can discuss deducting the cake cost or adjusting your session.
